Shola Amoo

Bio: Shola Amoo is a 24 year old writer/director with a difference. Born and raised in South East London, his first short film Knife Trends L.D.N was a patient and in-depth documentary about knife crime in his surrounding community. The film went on to be screened at the Future Films Festival at the BFI and the BFM festival 2008. It was subsequently pick up by Current TV and then screened twice on their channel in that same year. This earned Shola his first TV credits.
Shola has since gone on to write and direct two more short films, the latest being the Neo-Noir Drama “The Hydra” which has been officially selected for the BFM festival 2009.
Whilst maintaining a steady career in film, Shola has also been making waves in his beloved field of theatre. He was selected for both the Soho and Royal Court writing groups. This subsequently resulted in his short play “Metamorphosis” being chosen for a reading at Soho Theatre. The play was met with a very positive and encouraging reception.
Shola Amoo latest project is the creation of his latest play, “A decade under the influence”. He wrote and developed the play at the Royal Court Theatre and a reading of the piece will be performed at the Young Vic Theatre in October.
Shola Amoo work has always been driven by the social problems that people face every day, so expect to hear a lot more from this young talent. .
