So word's got out that the opening film for the 11th bfm International Film Festival is Chris Rock's Good Hair and so you told your friends, family and pets and then guess what? It sold out.

Short films, documentaries and talks examine climate change, poverty and sustainability in developing countries in Africa and the Caribbean, and sustainability awareness in UK. The day includes documentaries featuring British R&B singer Lemar visiting Uganda in East Africa with Christian Aid and Champion of the Earth 2008 winner, H E Liz Thompson and her campaign for developing green social and economic policies in the Caribbean and Latin America.

In association with the Legacy Media Institute (LMI), bfm International Film Festival for the first time will offer one scholarship to a UK filmmaker. The opportunity will be based in Virginia, USA and commence in early 2010.
Built on a model similar to Robert Redford’s Sundance, the LMI is a support system for diverse, independent film artists located at a state-of-the-art facility providing training in filmmaking, business and media production.
The Legacy Media Institute in partnership with bfm IFF are looking for motivated and talented up and coming filmmakers who want to move forward more significantly in their careers.
The six week scholarship is education focused and would consist of the opportunity to attend workshops and seminars along with other participants from various colleges and universities in the US. The opportunity may be extended to incorporate production work on a documentary project. More

A Winter Tale tells the emotional story of a black men's support group that begins to meet at the local Caribbean takeaway restaurant following the shooting death of a young child. It features a talented ensemble cast led by Canadian stars Peter Williams and Michael Miller and Caribbean icons Leonie Forbes and Dennis "Spranglang" Hall. The script was developed through a collaborative improvisational process with the cast, and shot on location in Toronto's Parkdale community. More
The Winter Tale screening is in partnership with the Images of Black Women Film Festival (IBWFF). Sylviane Rano, of IBWFF will introduce the film and chair the Q&A with Winter Tale director, Frances Anne-Solomon.

Set in Jamaica, Not To Me follows the lives of best friends Keisha and Charmaine. Keisha is worried that her “uptown” boyfriend might forget her when he’s away studying. So she decides the best way to keep him and get out of the ghetto is to get pregnant, but time is against her. Charmaine on the other hand has no plans at all and goes from one drunken partner to another, risking everything for a few quick thrills. Both girls eventually go for AIDS and pregnancy tests and the results lead to drastic changes in their attitudes. More
